A poignant reflection on toxic love, the craving for escape from the cycle of pain and addiction, and the longing to break free and heal.

After everything salty,
You enjoy the sweets,
Craving one sweet after another
because you just never had it before.
Not knowing you’re damaging yourself.
But what’s the difference?
I believe it’s true.
The illusion will grow still.
I know the difference,
but my mind is tricky
because, after all, the saltiness,
I’m addicted to the sweets.
I have a rotten tooth because of you.
No amount of poetry seems to paint the picture.
I know what love I have for you,
but the sweets confuse me.
I know what love you have for me
but I’m just tired of the saltiness.
I want to break away from you.
So then I can heal the parts of me
that crave those sweets.
Then I can be around you again.
I’ll be free, free from all the sweets.
